Hollywood Mural Project

Help us Beautify Hollywood!

This year the California Arts Council budget was cut by $5 million leaving many arts related non profit organizations crippling. This is after vital advocacy efforts reversed the originally proposed $22.5 million cut. Decreasing funds along with the aftermath of the pandemic and the rise of AI have left the art market in catastrophe with many creatives abandoning their craft due to economic reasons–– along with the continuing trend of social media algorithms being increasingly vampiristic, oppressive to artistic expression and freedom of speech.  Still, many of us appreciate authentic human expression, understanding the its value raises in an increasingly superficial world.

We are building an active arts community centered in Hollywood, powered by you!

About the Project:

We aim to beautify the Hollywood neighborhood, instill a sense of community pride, and perpetuate social and environmental justice through public art. Our effort is lead by artist Andrew Severns.

Mural Locations:

• Hollywood-based schools

• Community spaces

• Street-facing businesses

Community Engagement:

• Volunteer painting days

• Opportunities for learning, growth, and creative exploration.

The Canon System:

Andrew Severns, a Los Angeles-based muralist and sculptor evolved from graffiti art to a community-focused public art approach. He developed 'The Canon System,' a geometrical, systematic method that emphasizes community engagement and serves multiple functions: visually interesting and thought-provoking, reflective of and integrated with the surrounding community's culture, universally appealing and unbiased, vibrant and energizing for public spaces, and symbolic of goodwill, unity, and inspiration.

Andrew’s murals feature cellular patterns in vibrant colors, symbolizing individual contributions to a greater whole, and draw from feng shui, sacred geometry, numerology, and

mathematics to integrate harmoniously with existing architecture and infrastructure. Utilizing a math-based approach where basic shapes repeat at different scales, Andrew’s technique has historical roots in the construction of cathedrals and temples, aiming to stimulate and heal communities by fostering connections and harmony.
