Third House Communications & Program Intern

Eligibility: Currently enrolled college students (undergraduate)
Hours: 20 hours/week (Total: 400 hours)
Compensation: $18.87/hour
Position Overview
This internship offers hands-on experience in arts administration, communications, and community-based programming. The intern will support Third House: A Community Art Studio, an artist-led hub in Van Nuys that provides emerging artists with space, mentorship, and community.
Through storytelling, digital media, and program support, the intern will play a key role in expanding the visibility, impact, and sustainability of Third House as a vital cultural resource in the San Fernando Valley.
Learning Objectives
By the end of the internship, the intern will:
Develop skills in arts communications, documentation, and digital storytelling
Gain experience in community-based arts programming and event production
Learn how artist-led spaces operate within a nonprofit arts ecosystem
Build a professional portfolio of media, writing, and program documentation
Strengthen skills in collaboration, project management, and community engagement
Key Responsibilities
Storytelling & Documentation
Capture and share creative work at Third House (resident artists, workshops, figure drawing, public programs) through photo, video, and written content
Assist in building a visual and narrative archive of programming
Digital Media & Communications
Develop and schedule social media content
Support newsletters and website updates highlighting artists, events, and impact
Contribute to strengthening Third House’s public-facing voice
Program Coordination
Assist with planning and implementation of programs and events
Track calendars, prepare materials, greet participants, and support on-site logistics
Document program outcomes
Community Engagement
Interview artists, participants, and community members
Gather stories that reflect the role of Third House in building creative community
Evaluation & Reporting
Compile media, stories, and participation data
Support reporting that demonstrates growth, reach, and community impact
Impact of the Role
This internship directly supports Third House’s mission by amplifying artist voices, increasing public engagement, and ensuring that community stories are central to the studio’s ongoing development.
Preferred Qualifications
Currently enrolled in a college or university (arts, communications, media, nonprofit studies, or related field preferred)
Strong interest in arts, culture, and community-based work
Experience with social media platforms and/or content creation
Strong communication and organizational skills
Ability to work both independently and collaboratively
Additional Information
Some evening and First Friday availability required for public programs
Opportunity to build a portfolio and receive mentorship from arts professionals
