Guest Artist-in-Residence Application
Temporary project-based subsidized membership
Why Apply for a Residency
For many emerging artists, creative work happens in the margins — in bedrooms, garages, or shared apartments — squeezed between jobs, family, and daily responsibilities. A residency at Third House offers something different: dedicated time, space, and community to take your practice seriously.
Guest Residents gain more than a private studio — they enter an ecosystem of working artists, mentors, and organizers who are shaping the creative future of the San Fernando Valley. It’s a chance to move from isolation to connection, from experimentation to execution, and from idea to impact.
Through access to workspace, public presentation opportunities, and support from 11:11 Projects, residents can:
-
Focus deeply on a single project without distraction
-
Develop new skills in community engagement and professional practice
-
Build visibility through workshops, exhibitions, and social media promotion
-
Expand their creative network across the Valley’s growing arts scene
-
Experience what it means to sustain an artistic practice within a supportive community
At its heart, the residency is an invitation to step out of your bedroom studio and into a space that sees you as an artist — not someday, but right now.
Program Overview
The Third House Artist-in-Residence (AIR) Program supports emerging artists in the San Fernando Valley who are exploring projects rooted in environmental justice, social justice, or the preservation of cultural legacies.Through subsidized access to a private studio and shared workspace at Third House, residents are given the time, space, and support to develop new work and engage the local community through workshops, open studios, and public programming.
Each AIR is invited to culminate their residency with a public project unveiling — such as an exhibition, performance, or event — that reflects their creative process and contributes to the Valley’s cultural landscape.

Third House is committed to equity and accessibility in the arts. We encourage applications from artists who have been historically excluded from institutional opportunities, including but not limited to BIPOC, LGBTQ+, women, immigrant, and disabled artists.
