11:11 Projects is hiring paid Mural Assistants to work alongside lead artists on the Valley Rising Mural Festival, a series of large-scale murals across Canoga Park, Reseda, and Winnetka. You'll help bring these walls to life from first coat to final detail, and you'll share the process with our community on camera along the way.

 

You don't need mural experience. We're looking for emerging artists with strong painting skills, a portfolio to prove it, and a drive to grow their professional practice.

 

Professional Development at the Core

Professional development runs through every 11:11 public art program. As a Mural Assistant, you'll get hands-on experience on a professional mural production: working with a lead artist, hitting real deadlines, managing large-scale color and composition, and documenting your work for a public audience. You'll leave with new skills, footage and content for your own portfolio, and connections in the LA public art community.

 

What You'll Do

• Assist lead artists with wall prep, color mixing, blocking in, and painting

• Work in both brush and aerosol

• Follow the lead artist's direction and vision while keeping their timeline on track

• Help tell the story of the mural through video (see Content Requirements below)

 

Content Requirements

Storytelling is part of the job. During installation, you'll be required to:

• Record point-of-view footage while you paint, showing your hands, the wall, the process

• Film 2–4 selfie videos talking about the process: what you're working on, what you're learning, and what it feels like to paint at this scale

• Optional: take part in a professionally produced video interview about your experience

All footage will be shared on 11:11 and Valley Rising social channels, and you're welcome to use it on your own channels and in your portfolio.

 

Who We're Looking For

Required

• An artist actively pursuing a professional art practice

• A portfolio that shows strong painting skills (brush + aerosol acceptable)

• Solid color mixing skills

• Able to take direction well and execute someone else's vision

• Able to work on a set timeline and under pressure: outdoor conditions, deadlines, and public attention

• Comfortable on camera and willing to complete the content requirements above

• Flexible schedule. You must be able to work within the lead artist's timeline, which may include early mornings, weekends, or consecutive days.

• 18 or older

• Ties to the San Fernando Valley

Not required

• Prior mural experience. If your painting chops are there, we'll teach you the rest.

Helpful but not required

• Comfort working on ladders, scaffolding, or lifts

• Reliable transportation to sites across the West Valley

• Bilingual (English/Spanish)

 

Compensation & Details

• Pay: Paid per square foot, the same structure as our lead artists. Total pay depends on the mural you're assigned to.

• Installation timeline: November–December 2026

• Locations: Mural sites across Canoga Park, Reseda, and Winnetka

• Hours: Vary by mural and are set by each lead artist's schedule

• Paint, supplies, and safety equipment are provided
